Home VisitorRecognising The Risks To Staff In The Housing Sector

Housing staff are vulnerable to many kinds of assault, in particular when visiting people in their homes, flats or rooms in a multi-use facility. Personal Safety Training can provide staff with the knowledge to predict when difficulties may occur, and strategies, including withdrawal tactics, and if required Breakaway Techniques should a physical attack occur. Whether working with young disadvantaged people, those who have suffered abuse, those who have learning difficulties or those who have been forced to take refuge, these seminars can assist staff when dealing with aggression and protect staff in difficult and challenging circumstances.

Whether visiting residents in a home environment, in an office based interview situation, or within a secure or non-secure multi-use or multi client facility, the safety and security of staff and residents should be paramount. Personal-Safety-Training.com can provide training to ensure that staff are aware of the risks, and provide strategies and practical solutions to conflicts that are likely to arise. Specialising in training workers at the interface with service users, our Personal Safety Training emphasises the Duty of Care aspect of the work, ensuring that staff fully understand the risks, actions which can be taken and the consequences of taking action.

The seminar is based on early identification of areas of conflict, tackling challenging behaviour, and assessing a potentially difficult or deteriorating situation early. Withdrawal tactics are discussed at length, and advice on how and when to terminate the meeting are imparted. Body Language, Personal Space, Aggressive Language, Para-Verbals and Stressor are covered in this comprehensive and intensive one day seminar.

Breakaway Training is provided, and is nonviolent - the program is designed to provide staff with disengagement techniques that are non-invasive, and protect both the service provider and service user. The techniques are based on principles and not on a variety of specific responses to specific types of attack, and are therefore easily learned and remembered. The ethos of the seminar is that the service provider should terminate early if the situation starts to become aggressive, and how to deal with aggression, when it arises.

There are specialist modules available on Drugs and Alcohol Abuse, Learning Difficulties, Dementia and Autism Spectrum Disorders, and dealing with those who have suffered Abuse.

A Certificate of Attendance is presented to all participants, and attendees are requested to complete a feedback form on completion of the course, in order that we can continue to improve our workshops and courses.
